Mold can pose health risks to those in your home, and it can cause damage to the structure of your home if it's allowed to spread. This is why it's important for you to always be on the lookout for mold. The sooner you get rid of any mold, the better off your family and your home will be. This article will teach you how to find mold around your home and help you get rid of it.
Look for mold
The first step in making sure your home is free of mold is to inspect it for any signs of mold growth. You want to check areas around your home that are more susceptible. Mold can come in a variety of shades of green, or it can be black. Take care of any moisture issues early on, before they become a problem.
One of the areas you want to look for mold in is anywhere close to plumbing pipes, where the pipes are near the walls. This includes near the toilets, under your sinks and around your showers.
You should also check along the baseboards to see if water has come in from outside and is causing mold growth. If you have a leak in your roof, it can cause mold to develop on your ceiling. You also want to pay attention to the window sills. If water comes in through a space in the windowsill during a rainfall, it can grow on the sill, eventually making its way down the wall.
Check the area where your water heater is stored. Many times a water heater will be stored in a closet area and if the area is not properly vented, then it makes a great environment for mold to develop. Areas around your air conditioner are also more susceptible, as are vents where leaks can be a more common occurrence.
Get rid of the mold
If you find mold in your home, you want to get rid of it as quickly as possible. The best way to remove mold yourself is by using a solution of bleach and water. Fill a spray bottle with water and add a splash of bleach. Protect your lungs from the mold spores by wearing a protective breathing mask. You also want to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands. Your clothes should be ones you don't mind throwing away since they run the risk of being damaged by the bleach.
Spray a generous amount of the bleach and water solution directly on the mold and use a stiff brush to scrub the mold in a circular motion. Spray more of the solution on the same spot and use a rag to wipe the area clean. You want to repeat the process until the area is completely free of mold. Be sure you check the area regularly to see if it has returned. If you continue having problems, you should call out a professional mold removal company to address the mold damage.Share
